They come in all shapes and sizes from small to extra-large and they’re very well designed to provide your dog with full body support.
Although finding the best orthopedic memory foam bed to buy for your dog may seem like an easy task, it’s actually somewhat complicated.

The difference between egg-crate foam and memory foam
From a manufacturing point of view, there are 2 types of orthopedic dog beds: egg-crate foam dog beds and memory foam dog beds.
Egg-crate foam dog beds are less expensive than memory foam beds.
The name comes from the foam’s egg-crate shape that’s meant to provide better airflow and a cooler surface than flat orthopedic foam.
Egg-crate foam dog beds adjust to pressure right away. The downside though is that egg-crate foam beds don’t have the long lifespan that memory foam dog beds have.
With time, the bed will remain permanently compressed, which means it won’t be able to provide the support your dog needs, any more and you should consider replacing it.
Memory foam is a special kind of polyurethane that NASA invented in the 70s.
As it becomes warmer from body heat, the memory foam becomes more flexible and molds to your dog’s body shape.
Since memory foam quality is measured by its density not it’s thickness, a thinner memory foam dog bed will still provide excellent support.
Memory foam orthopedic dog beds are also very durable. If you want something that’s long-lasting, memory foam is your best bet.
The downside as far as I see it, is that memory foam dog beds retain heat more than other types of foam. But you can fix this by placing a thicker cover or pad on top of the foam mattress.

Which orthopedic dog bed should you buy?
I’ve given you 7 top quality orthopedic dog beds with memory foam.
But which one is the best one for your dog?
Here’s the step by step dog bed buyer’s guide:
Step 1: How big is your dog?
The #1 thing you should look at is the size of the bed.
If you own a German shepherd or some other large dog breed, the dog bed should be large or extra large and it should be at least 4″ thick, but 7″ is better.
Step 2: Is your dog in perfect health?
If your dog doesn’t suffer from arthritis, joint pain or muscle stiffness and is in perfect health condition, a less expensive memory foam orthopedic dog bed would still provide him with a comfortable place to sleep or lay down.
But if your dog is suffering or is older, you should consider spending a little bit more to get him the bed that offers the best support and therapeutic comfort.
Step 3: Check the best deals online.
And that’s all I have to say about orthopedic dog beds.
Just know that an orthopedic memory foam dog bed is the most comfortable place for your dog to sleep, nap or rest and they’re worth every penny.
